MAXINE LACEBY PROVES THAT IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO SET UP A MULTI-MILLION POUND BEAUTY BUSINESS

Updated: Aug 4, 2021

Maxine Laceby - A FULL TIME MOTHER FOR 25 YEARS, WHO SET UP HER BUSINESS IN HER 50'S
ONE OF THE UK's FAST GROWING DIRECT TO CONSUMER BEAUTY BRANDS

Tenacious, empowered and persistent, those are just a few words to describe Maxine Laceby, mother of two and CEO and Founder of leading beauty and wellness brand, Absolute Collagen. An inspiration to women and mothers in business, who remarkably started her business in her 50's, from her kitchen.

In 2017, with no experience in the skincare industry, Maxine founded Absolute Collagen, which is now one of the UK's fastest growing direct to consumer beauty brands. She embarked on her life changing journey deciding to self fund her dream after banks refused to back her idea. She believed in herself and her dream and as a result, she has achieved so much.

Maxine has taken the market by storm and built a credible, ever-growing beauty business with a £17m turnover.

So how does a woman begin a multi million pound company from her kitchen? Maxine gave us the lowdown and tells Mama Wins just how she did it.

The inspiration behind Absolute Collagen came when Maxine began boiling bone broth in her kitchen, hoping to reap the health benefits. She began to see improvements in her hair, skin, nails and overall well-being. Excited by the results, she began to conduct deep research on the impact of marine collagen. In her quest to learn more about the efficacy of collagen, she started speaking to scientists and reading up on all the evidence obtained from clinical trials. Through her journey, she became passionate about the impact marine collagen had on the hair, skin, and nails, and identified a gap in the market for a product that contained premium quality and high dosage marine collagen. From there, the aspiring business woman decided to create her very own collagen supplement, offering consumers the most effective collagen solution to boost their own hair, skin and overall health.

Astonishingly, in just four years, Maxine has taken the market by storm and built a credible, ever-growing beauty business with a £17m turnover. Maxine runs the business with the help of her two daughters Darcy and Margot, who are also key to the drive and growth of the company. The company now has thousands of loyal users - who are warmly called ‘Absoluters’, and have received multiple rave reviews and won multiple prestigious beauty awards, including a CEW Beauty Award.

Now I'm no skincare virgin. I'm religiously fruitful with my night and morning routine. However, collagen has been on my list of things to try, and although in my mid thirties, I have never committed. Here's my experience:

Unlike many other collagen products that come in powder form, Absolute Collagen is different. The product comes in an envelope shaped box (so there's no trouble getting it mailed through the door). With 14 easy to use 8g sachets, all containing marine peptide collagen infused with vitamin C. A gold like liquid - that made me feel very luxurious, appears when you cut through the sachet. I decided to take it all in one go, as opposed to diluting into a tea or other liquid, in hopes the collagen would work quicker! The sensation of the product, alongside my brain reminding me that I was in fact eating collagen was a bit of a bother, but the benefits eventually outweighed the doubts.

Have I noticed any changes, not yet, as it's only been a few days. But from the raving reviews on the companies website and the thousands of 'Absoluters' that swear by the product - I am willing to stay on course.

Let's be frank here, we are all aging and looking for ways to be our best selfs and age gracefully, so there's no reason to not indulge in products that can aid us with in the process. What's delightful about Absolute Collagen is that the product has not been formed by a cahoot of investors set out to cash in on women and the ageing process, but by a woman who understands the beauty in ageing and the need to have the option to maintain it.

So, am ready to foot the bill and add another product to my routine. I would say yes. Prevention is better than cure right - and if I can drink myself to good skin, then why not. I mean it saves time and effort, two things that I struggle with on a daily basis.

The most important take away here, is that dreams are meant to be lived. Motherhood may mean we have to put things on hold for a while, but essentially, we all have the ability to achieve and become who we are meant to be.
