An Ode To Women Experiencing PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome commonly known as PCOS is a common condition that affects how a woman's ovaries work. With he main main features being:

  • irregular periods – which means your ovaries do not regularly release eggs (ovulation)

  • excess androgen – high levels of "male" hormones in your body, which may cause physical signs such as excess facial or body hair

  • polycystic ovaries – your ovaries become enlarged and contain many fluid-filled sacs (follicles) that surround the eggs (but despite the name, you do not actually have cysts if you have PCOS)

If you have at least 2 of these features, you may be diagnosed with PCOS.

PCOS women normally gain weight and there is lot of hormonal imbalance. But the sad thing is there is no cure. And people and the society end up ridiculing them for being over weight, suffering from pimples or for the mood swings they experience. Child bearing can also sadly result in uncertainty. So this poem is a shoutout to those women. This is for the women out there suffering in silence from the symptoms of PCOS.

It turned her life into a shock. Who are you to mock?

Hairy, spots on her face and a belly with stubborn fat.

You comment on her, she eats a lot this and that.

You body shamed her without knowing the cause.

You are no one to judge her flaws.

She deals with mood swings, hormonal imbalance.

Don't blame the disease alone for lowering her confidence.

This doesn't end here, she may become infertile.

Again don't question her inability to birth a child.

Doctors said the cause is unknown, there is no cure.

Be thankful the curse is her's, not yours.

People can't see, they don't understand.

I can only beg, go educate yourself,

rather than misunderstand.
